Ziiiro Eclipse Review

New Ziiiro watch review...
Picture
Ziiiro specializes in creating modern watches for the discerning individual. The Eclipse is their latest model line after releasing a number of others. Responsible for telling the time is the quartz Miyota 2025, a reliable, workhorse movement. No complaints about the movement here. Let's move onto the rest of the review...

Case and Crown
Picture
The case on this watch is nicely done. While most lug-less watches (especially those where the crown is not visible under normal wearing conditions, such as the Ziiiro Eclipse) tend to look like a hockey puck, the beveled edges and the wonderful curving of the strap prevent this. The non-hockey puck case is topped off with mineral crystal.
Picture
The case is 43mm in diameter, and since it has no lugs, 43mm in length (although there is a slightly more rigid part of the bracelet that slopes down, acting as the nonexistent lugs. The watch is quite slim coming in at 8.5mm, which, combined with the curved bracelet and light-weight nature of the watch, creates a watch that is both comfortable and subtle.
Picture
The caseback is very flat and just barely protrudes from the main structure of the case. The outer edge is engraved with the technical information (water resistant 3 ATM, stainless steel, etc.). However, this caseback serves one of the most important functions of all, it provides the brand of the watch. The dial looks fantastic without a name and I am thankful that Ziiiro chose not to put their logo or name on it, therefore ruining it's beauty and simplicity.
Picture
The crown is very thin, coming in at just 1mm thick. Some people may call it flimsy, but it certainly doesn't feel that way. Plus, if you want the crown to be hidden while wearing the watch, this is necessary. Although, at first, it appeared that pulling out the crown would be a challenge, the small cutout underneath made this task easier than I expected.

Score: 9/10

Dial and Hands
Picture
This is the feature that separates the Ziiiro Eclipse from the rest. Other watch dials can have similar features found on hundreds of other watches, but I can guarantee you won't find another watch similar to this one. The black rectangle is the hour indicator, the white is the minutes. In order to uphold the illusion of floating markers, a large black circle is printed on the underside of the crystal. Despite the lack of hour and minute markers, one can still tell the time with relative ease.
Picture
The lume on the Eclipse is fantastic. The outer ring and minute hand are both coated with BG-W9 superluminova, making for an attractive white in the daytime and a beautiful blue at night. My one complaint about the lume is not the strength or duration, but the fact that the lume under the two "hands" will never be activated.

Score: 9/10

Strap and Buckle
Picture
The strap and clasp do their job. Well. Many lugless watches can be uncomfortable, but this is not the case with the Eclipse. The strap on the Eclipse hugs the wrist extremely well, making for a very comfortable fit. There are, however, molding lines on the side of the strap that are visible, but given the price of the watch, it's hard to complain.
Picture
The underside of the strap bears the company name, as does the buckle.

The buckle is a simple pin buckle. It does it's job well and, as a result, the strap is quite comfortable. It has the same bead-blasted finish as the case, a look which, in my opinion, suits the watch well.

Score: 8/10

On the Wrist
Picture
The watch is quite comfortable and it hugs the wearer's wrist well. Given the thin case, the watch is easily able to fit under a shirt cuff.

Packaging
Picture
The watch comes in a thick plastic cylinder with an easily removable top.

Inside of the outer box, the Eclipse is snugly fitted to an insert and topped off with a foam ring. This system works well and keeps the watch from shifting during transit.

Final Overview
The Ziiiro Eclipse, while it may not be a WIS's ideal watch, isn't bad at all. It is a modern watch that, at it's $200 price point, offers a good value for anyone searching for a conversation starter.

Overall score: 26/30

Here are some things I think could be improved:

1) While I like the current lugless and crown-less (not really, but at first glance it looks like it) design, the crown is so thin that when pulling it out it digs into that area between my fingertip and fingernail, which is sort of painful.

2) While I realize that the price would have to go up, I would like to see the molding lines on the strap disappear. Picky, but that's just who I am.

Please note that I received this watch from Ziiiro free of charge.

You can purchase the Ziiiro Eclipse from the company website here.
