Pre-Basel 2017: Oris Artelier Calibre 113

Oris Artelier Calibre 113 case back
Oris' gorgeous new watch, the Artelier Calibre 113, features it's new in-house movement, the Calibre 113. There was no good way to say that, mea culpa. The wide exhibition case back proudly showcases the hand-wound movement. The movement manages to squeeze out a 10-days of power using a single barrel. Oris first introduced their first single-barrel watch with a 10-day power reserve in 2014 inside the 110 Limited Edition. Since then Oris has also released the 111 and 112. The newest watch, the 113, is far more in line with watches I like in that it has slightly more going on on the dial (while not being too crowded) and a darker dial. The new 113 actually has a choice of either an Anthracite or Opaline silver dial. While the outside is appealing, the movement is worthy of far more praise. The movement not only displays the hours, minutes, and seconds (at the 9 o'clock subdial), but also the day of the week (below 12), the date (9), the month and calendar year (outer rim, indicated by the red-tipped hand). Not to mention that it also has a power reserve at 3 o'clock. Although the target market is the businessman, on a different style of strap I could see the watch being worn in almost any situation (though this is mostly directed towards the gray dial). The watch is available with a strap options, though they differ depending on the dial color. Both are available on a metal bracelet, but opaline dial is also available on a gray, black, or dark brown leather strap, while the gray dial is only available on a dark brown leather strap. All the leather straps (thankfully) have a stainless steel folding clasp, which are typically greatly favored over tang/buckle-and-pin. Both watches have a diameter of 43mm, which is a good compromise between large and small. Both watches have an msrp of 5,900 CHF (~$5,850 USD). I put the specs of both watches below.
