It's been a while, sorry about that! I'm back today to bring you something a little different. If you're interested, just click "Read More". Alright, you clicked it and I'm sorry to say it was just clickbait. This post isn't really anything different, I'm sorry if I have betrayed your trust. This post is just about the new Spectre limited edition Omega, the watch above. Omega recently released a video showcasing the watch (which I embed include below). I will also include stills from the video. Basically I'm just here to talk about what I think. First off, I am a fan of the James Bond series. The new movie looks promising, so I recommend that you check out the multiple trailers that have been released (if you're interested). The "Skyfall" limited edition, the first picture below with the "Skyfall" text (for the slow or very tired ones) was a watch I found absolutely stunning. The watch before that, the Quantum of Solace LE, wasn't as great. It's design, like the Skyfall watch, was based deeply in the Planet Ocean watch, it just happens that I like the new version better. In fact, on both watches only the texture of the dial was changed. Skyfall was endowed with an intriguing grid, while the Quantum watch features a diamond pattern meant to imitate the grip of the Walther PPK (or PPK/S, as this is the gun he uses in more recent films). The only real difference between the two guns is the longer grip on the PPK/S (I don't feel a need to go into any more depth in this section, as this blog isn't really focused around guns). The Casino Royale limited edition is the most similar to the design of the original planet ocean. In general, it is pretty uncommon to find large changes made in a limited edition. Unlike the newest film, I believe that he does wear this watch in the movie. The only real change here is actually the second hand (I'm ignoring the caseback for all of these, as that is basically a given when it comes to limited editions), or more specifically the counterweight which features the 007 logo. Finally, we arrive at the new watch. Probably the ugliest out of all of them, to be completely and brutally honest. The watch just doesn't look good in my opinion. The second hand seems...off. The bezel doesn't look good with a 0 at the top and the NATO strap doesn't feel like (modern) Bond. I realize they may be trying to look back at the heritage of bond with this watch (and especially the strap), but it doesn't look good. In fact, I greatly prefer the original watch (directly below). You will find it interesting to note that this watch is a limited edition of only 7,007, while the Skyfall LE was out of 11,007. This makes me wonder if they had trouble selling their last limited edition, although it could also be as simple as they want to make their watches more exclusive. Maybe we are starting to see Omega attempt to increase their exclusivity and place in the watch market? Regardless, if you are wondering Omega released a video showcasing the new watch and this post got a lot longer than I thought it would. You can find the watch on Omega's website here. The video is below.
