While the Kickstarter campaign for this watch was launched just over two weeks ago, the Avalon by Melbourne Watch Company (MWC) is the company's first pilot-themed watch. The watch itself is, as we have come to expect from MWC, is well-designed and I'm sure the Avalon will be well-crafted as well. Overall, the design has a nice balance between bright colors and duller blacks. What I don't like about the design (personally) is the size of the hands (which look too large) and the caution tape near the exposed balance wheel. I can see where they are coming from with this design feature, but personally I don't like it. At the 9 o'clock position is a small plaque, if you can call it that, which is engraved with the word "Avalon". The dial markers (and for all intents and purposes, the dial itself) are symmetrical, strange given that if one wants to make a highly-visible watch, they would typically have some sort of more distinct marking at the twelve o'clock position. The case is 45mm in diameter, one of the most popular sizes in the watch industry today. In my opinion, large watches will go out of style just as quickly as they came in, leaving many watch wearers stranded. While my personal preference gravitates more towards the 39-42mm size, others will have their own choices when it comes to size.
