First, I would like to thank Jake for the wonderful giveaway. Finding out I had won was a great surprise. It's All About the Watches is a terrific blog which I only recently discovered. I was glad I stumbled upon it. Jake asked if I'd write a brief winner's review, his review is well written and comprehensive but I will still give my impressions of the watch. I am happy to do it. My first impression of the AVI-8 Hawker Harrier II is that is B I G big. I am a vintage watch collector and have watches ranging from 32 mm to 40 mm (with one square faced watch that is 27 mm on each side) so I am not used to having a watch of this size on my wrist. Frankly, I really look at design when it comes to watches. What this large size does is it allows the design to come to the fore. The size displays all its attributes clearly. Being a three register chronograph, it is possible for all of the elements to become crowded together on a small watch but AVI-8 places each detail with precision. Of my favorite elements I would like to say the hands are top of the list. The sword minute and hour hands are well proportioned and I love the second hand with the red tipped plane. Next, the stepped face with the 12 and 6 o'clock dials at the lowest level; 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 hour markers, and minute register on the next level; and finally the 6, 9, 12 hour and minute markers makes reading the time or the passage of time on the chronograph dead easy. Lastly, the textured face is simply gorgeous. This a spectacular watch especially considering the price point. I only have two criticisms of the watch one is personal preference and the other is something I consider an actual fault. Firstly, I am not a fan of the date window the 4 o'clock position. This is simple my own preference, I'm sure there are others who would hold no objection to the placement. Secondly, the big second hand being the continuous counting hand is, to my mind, a bit strange but it wouldn't stop me from selecting this watch given all the other design elements. In conclusion, the AVI-8 Hawker Harrier II is an excellent watch. It is a great looking chronograph and one that I am sure I will enjoy in a BIG way for many years.
