The company is famous for it's automons comes a new watch that I have to say may be one of the best new releases for Baselworld 2014 I have seen thus far. As the title says the new watch is from the Grande Seconde collection, famous for it's off-center subdials that give the impression of the number 8. The SW Cotes De Geneve is a different take on this simple and classic watch. The name clearly comes from the decoration on the dial. This type of decoration is commonly seen on movements but very rarely is it found on the dial of a watch. This is mainly because it is very difficult to do. However, this did not stop the masters at JD and they went ahead and made it happen. Unlike older models of the watch, which have either a bracelet or rubber strap, this new version has an alligator leather strap to give the watch a more refined and elegant look. The top subdial displays the hours and minutes by day and at night too thanks to the use of BG W9 superluminova. The bottom subdial that displays seconds is actually larger, a feature found on few other watches. As one can see from the second picture the movement is also decorated with Cotes de Geneve and is displayed through the exhibition caseback. Going back to the leather strap you find that the contour of the end perfectly matches that of the case, a nice touch that is not found on many watches, regardless of the price range. You will also notice the interesting "crown guard" if I may call it that. I assume that this piece of metal is used to hold the bezel in place but I cannot tell you for sure. The white gold movement has 30 jewels and a double-barrel design offering a power reserve of 68 hours. This last picture really shows the beauty of the cotes de geneve dial. It matches the anthracite colored strap perfectly, mainly because it is made from, well, anthracite. The thin bezel is going to make this white gold case look larger than it's 45mm size would suggest. However, this is not going to be the only version on the Grade Seconde Jaquet Droz releases. This is just one variation but they will release a few others at Basel in addition to this one, something sure to go over well with many people. Price on this watch is $14,500. I hope I don't have to wait until Baselworld to see the rest of the new releases. Thanks for reading!
